What is a Slot Machine?

Slot Machines 🎰 (also known as Poker Machines or 'Pokies') were originally mechanical coin-operated games commonly found in pubs and bars going back as far as the late 1800s. They featured spinning reels which were each labelled with a series of symbols, and rewarded the player with a coin payout when certain desired combinations of symbols were reached.

Antique Slot Machine

Over time, Slot Machines have become more sophisticated, largely being replaced by electronic video-based alternatives, leaving traditional mechanical Slot Machines to become sought after vintage antiques.

How is a slot machine played?

  1. A Coin is inserted into the Slot of the machine, and the Lever is pulled to begin a Play.
  2. The three Reels spin for a set time, then each Reel stops sequentially from left to right.
  3. The three Symbols that are visible once all Reels have stopped determines the Result.
  4. If the Result matches one of the Winning Combinations on the Pay Table, the number of Coins specified by that Winning Combination are dispensed and collected.
